Review of St. Peters, Missouri

Is everyone in Missouri Rude or is it just where I
Star Rating - 7/11/2012
My husband just took a job out here in St. Louis about four months ago. We are from Loveland Ohio (a small town 25 miles out of Cincinnati). When I knew it was a possibility we could be moving out here I started researching my butt off! I was looking for neighborhoods with low crime rates and triple A School districts. I knew about every house for sale in St. Charles County (my realtor thought I was OCD... maybe I am)and finally I found a lovely home in St. Peters! Its a beautiful place and it has many things for families with children to do! However, I have noticed people aren't as friendly as I hoped they would be. Actually I am being very nice.... I have never seen so many rude people in my life. I go to the stores and the woman push right through you, dont say excuse me, don't say sorry when they bump into you, cut you off, or knock your kid over! When you hold the doors for them or do any other nice gesture you don't get a thanks or even a smile! Seriously I think only one person has smiled in my direction since I have been here. It seems The Golden Rules have yet to be taught here! I try to start conversations with the other moms at the parks or even make a joke and there is always only awkward silence before they make a getaway! I have to live here most likely forever so does anybody know what is going on? Any tips? And please nobody give me any bs about how I'm probably home sick and nothing will ever be like home! I'm not super sensitive or anything! I just want to NOT feel like punching somebody in the face everyday for being a terrible jerk! I'm kinda at the end of my rope as you can tell!!!

You’re right. I’ve been stuck in MO for more than a year and can’t wait to move.

It isn't just you. I am currently in St Louis while my husband does some training, second time this year, and a few years ago we came up to take in the free attractions. We first noticed it then. The people were rude, unfriendly, and the whole place a depressed and oppressive feel about it. We decided then that an occasional visit was fine but we never wanted to live here. We hadn't been back since in the past several years until my husband had to come up for two weeks of training. I thought perhaps I had been unfair before, but no, the kids and I tagged along and made the most of it but every where we went the people were just so RUDE and unfriendly. Same thing this trip. He's back for another week of training and as much as I hate being separated, I seriously almost did not come. Now I am here and don't really care if I get out and do things or not. Traffic is bad, been in worse, but their intersections are poorly planed, the people are as rude on the road as they are off the road and I just don't like this place. My husband is supposed to come back for one last week of training later. I think I will stay home in Tennessee where the people know how to smile and make conversation in lines and stores and restaurants. I want to like St Louis but I just can't get past the unfriendly people.

I grew up in Saint peters since I was 12 years old, and from the moment We moved there I felt the same nasty horrible vibes that you are getting! Even as a kid I could tell the difference between people in the Kansas City area and here. Now as an adult I have moved to O Fallon Missouri, which isn’t too much better but whenever I do have to stop through Saint peters I still pick up that same horrible vibe! The people in Saint peters are stuck up and they have no right to be because they are generally a bunch of nasty Hoosiers Who think their poop don’t stink! Try going to middle school in this horrible city! If you could afford Kirkwood I would recommend moving there, much more pleasant people!

JUST keep smiling and greeting people. Don't care what you get back. Keep looking for ways to be courteous. I would give an invite to your local neighbors for a lunch or barbecue.
